Just don’t expect the gameplay in the first and second games to be as smooth and polished as it is in the third if you do decide to start from the beginning of the series (the first in particular really shows its age). Nevertheless, as the game does include numerous small references to the events of previous games it might just be worth your time to play them if you have the time. “The Witcher 3” is obviously the third game in the Witcher series but playing the other games is not really necessary to understand the main thrust of the story.
